Firstly, the advantage that krill has over other euphausiids such as prawn
or shrimp is that krill are never farmed. Krill are harvested while in
their natural habitat; the clean, cool waters of the Antarctic, and thus
have a distinct wild taste that separates them from shrimp.
Secondly, Krill contain a unique enzyme that is very beneficial to humans.
Krill oil contains Omega 3 which plays a role in lowering cholesterol
and blood pressure and decreasing wrinkles.
Finally, as the world's population continues to grow, the problem of
feeding millions of people has become one of increasing concern. Krill
is a food source attracting a great deal of attention as an answer to
this dilemma. As much as 1 to 5 billion tons of krill are estimated to
be found in these waters according to recent research. Considering the
current annual world catch of fish is about 70 million tons, it is not
difficult to see how krill might easily satisfy the food needs of future.
